UpS: Thank you to Julie Levin, founder of Leaf People, for taking the time to talk with us. Julie, what kinds of products does Leaf People make?
LP: Leaf People marries modern botanical science with western medical herbalism to create beautiful, plant-based skin care for modern life. We have six unique product lines to cover all skin types and needs.
UpS: What’s the company’s mission?
LP: At Leaf People, service to the botanical kingdom is of upmost importance. We celebrate a plants-for-the-people attitude, making high quality, herbal skin care that is affordable and accessible. Our self-created circle of giving focuses on various forms of sustainability & charity and is an integral part of our daily operations.
UpS: What are three surprising things about Leaf People?
LP: We make all products in-house, from scratch, as well as wild farm many ingredients at our remote Rocky Mountain location. Every year we ship boxes of necessities to support a beautiful monastery in Bhutan, and our manufacturing techniques are closely tied to our Buddhist practices. Our director of operations is a quirky, 4-legged fur ball, @missmikopomsky!
UpS: Do you have a favorite memory related to United Plant Savers?
LP: I don’t have a memory but I have a goal. Leaf People has been donating money to support the UPS Sandalwood reforestation project in Hawaii for several years. My goal is to visit the big island, experience the accomplishments of the wonderful men and women overseeing this project and meet the Sandalwood saplings.
UpS: If you have a plant conservation program, please tell us about it:
LP: We are passionate about educating people about ethical wild harvesting practices to minimize the over-harvesting we are seeing locally, as well as globally, as wild plants and plant medicine become more mainstream and popular. Read more on our blog.
UpS: Looking forward, what are you excited about?
LP: This past year we have been creating video content and will release new clips on our website and youtube channel this winter. The primary focus is to offer more information about our products and to showcase key herbal ingredients.
