Hiking

The sanctuary sits on over 350 acres of protected land, and is home to over 8 miles of hiking trails. Each trail is unique and travels through a different area of the property, so there are accessible trails for almost everyone. There are hundreds of labeled plant species, countless examples of local wildlife, and several streams and ponds. Follow these few guidelines and enjoy your visit!

The Surrounding County

Southeastern Ohio is home to more than just the botanical sanctuary. We are conveniently located approximately a 30 minute drive from Athens, Ohio and about 20 minutes from Pomeroy, Ohio. Both towns are nestled deep in the Appalachian foothills and the lively arts and music scene entertain both locals and visitors alike all year round. The eclectic shopping and dining is a result of the presence of a large university and rich Appalachian heritage. Hunting, kayaking, bouldering, hiking, cycling, and mountain biking are just some of the most popular outdoor activities in the area.
