Bastyr University, located north of Seattle, Washington, is an accredited institution, internationally recognized as a pioneer in natural medicine. Bastyr is the largest university for natural health arts and sciences in the U.S., combining a multidisciplinary curriculum with leading-edge research and clinical training.
The Sacred Seeds Ethnobotanically Trail at Bastyr University is just over one mile and includes pacific northwest native plants growing in prairie, forest, and wetlands. The project is overseen by the Department of Herbal Sciences staff, volunteers, and two student interns. Beginning at the edge of our reknowned medicinal herb garden the trail ends in a forested wetland on the edge of our 51 acre campus adjacent to the 316 acre Saint Edward Washington State Park on the shores of Lake Washington.
November 2013 marks the beginning of phase two of three. During phase two we are creating a woodland edge employing native species, developing and differentiating the meadows and the woodland areas.
Ultimately our goal is to create a living resource and an outdoor classroom to more than 50,000 visitors annually, and for generations to come.
