Herbalism as Radical Resilience
For more than thirty years, since 1994, United Plant Savers has played a vital role in developing and nurturing the herbal community. From its origins at the International Herb Symposium, the organization has fostered connections through a variety of gatherings, including the Green Nations, the New England Women’s, numerous Planting the Future events, and the Ginseng and Forest Botanicals Conference, among many others.
These events—involving sharing, collective visioning, and the creation of botanical sanctuaries—have been foundational to United Plant Savers’ mission of medicinal plant conservation. The organization’s commitment is reflected in its efforts to establish the International Herb Symposium Learning Center, a key step toward archiving the Herbal Renaissance and strengthening the bonds within the community.
Innovations in Plant Conservation
United Plant Savers continues its work with the Duke Ethnobotanical Archives and Library and expanding the infrastructure needed for plant conservation. This includes supporting the grassroots botanical sanctuary network and ensuring that the center remains a hub for educational and conservation initiatives, as highlighted in the 2025 Year in Review.
Membership: The Heartbeat of the Organization
The organization’s membership has always been central to its vitality and progress. In recognition of this, United Plant Savers has created a Valentine Gift for both current and future members who feel called to join the community.
