United Plant Savers is a part of the Herb Day Coalition. May 5th, 2012 is all about celebrating herbs and herbalism through a series of independently-produced educational events! You can register your event on the www.herbday.org website. UpS is celebrating Herb Day in several ways! UpS grant program is sponsoring a community garden that will be planted on Herb Day at Meadowsweet herbs in Missoula, Montana and Susan Leopold will be teaching on Herb Day at the Gaia Gathering in Charlottesville, Virginia on how to create a Botanical Sanctuary. What will you do on Herb Day?
This National Herb Day (Saturday, May 5), Meadowsweet Herbs will partner with national non-profit organization United Plant Savers to bring Missoula four Demonstration Medicinal Herb Gardens. These gardens will be located at Meadowsweet Herbs (180 S 3rd St W) by Bernice’s Bakery. Each garden will contain healing plants for a specific body system including the immune system, digestive system, nervous system and skin. The gardens were designed, and will be planted, by second year herb students of the Herbal Foundations ROOT Program run by Meadowsweet Herbs. “We feel that these gardens will add beauty and a sense of pride to our downtown community, as well as enrich Missoula by their educational use. Because we are in a heavily trafficked area, many people will have the opportunity to benefit from this project. We look forward to giving herb classes at these gardens, and anyone can come by and have a self guided tour” said Elaine Sheff, co-owner of Meadowsweet Herbs. United Plant Savers’ mission is to protect native medicinal plants of the United States and Canada and their native habitat while ensuring an abundant renewable supply of medicinal plants for generations to come.
