Born in Oregon, & a long-time resident of Central Ohio, Annie Hsu Griffin — daughter of Mrs. Sung Bok Hsu: a researcher originally from Korea who went on to found Columbus-based health food & supplement chain HSU & Co. — is a dietician & herbal business owner with a passion for the power of plant medicine to change lives. Her mother, Mrs. Hsu, lived with life-altering health issues, including devastating ulcerative colitis; & found little help & few answers to reverse her condition in mainstream allopathic medicine in the United States. In fact, doctors recommended that Mrs. Hsu remove part of her colon, & get a permanent ostomy.

Mrs. Hsu, instead, was determined to tap the traditional medicine she’d grown up with — herbs, plants, & food combining — to help change her life. Annie witnessed first-hand how her mother’s health changed drastically thanks to a relationship with Korean ginseng tea, & herbal-based internal cleansing protocols: a health reversal which prompted the elder Mrs. Hsu, on her healing journey, to begin selling Korean Panax ginseng door-to-door in historically marginalized neighborhoods, where people had little equitable access to healthcare.

In 1977, spurred by positive response to her ginseng, Mrs. Hsu founded Hsu & Co. — a beloved Columbus-area health food store that eventually grew to three locations, centered around the internal cleansing protocol that helped Mrs. Hsu save her own health. In 1999, Mrs. Hsu opened a popular healing retreat center in Utica, Ohio (Licking County) to give sick people direct access to her protocols in a beautiful rural setting.

Annie Hsu Griffin grew up at Hsu & Co.; & went to school to be a dietician to better appreciate the complimentary power of alternative medicine. For Annie, Hsu & Co. isn’t about profit: it’s about helping connect people to products & information that might give someone a second lease on life. Hsu & Co. holds the distinction of being one of the longest-running herbal & health food stores in Central Ohio. Still going strong, Hsu & So. has introduced three generations of Ohioans to the healing powers of Panax ginseng & traditional medicinal herbs to clear, cleanse, & fortify the gut, blood, liver, & lymph.
